Tempo and key are useful reference points when you are organizing a set, planning an edit, or preparing a mix. Yenpro's BPM & Key analyzer reads an audio file in your browser and returns an estimated beats-per-minute value and musical key.
How to use the analyzer
- Open BPM & Key and drop a song into the upload area, or choose a file from your device.
- Wait a few seconds while the browser analyzes a representative section of about 30 seconds. The tool skips up to the first three seconds to move past a quiet intro.
- Read the estimated BPM and key. The key panel also shows other candidate keys, which can help when a track has an ambiguous tonal center.
- Use the ½×, 1× and 2× controls to view common half-time or double-time interpretations of the BPM estimate.
Supported audio files
The file picker accepts MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC and FLAC. The browser must be able to decode the selected file. If it cannot, try another supported format.
What the result can tell you
BPM gives you a tempo reference; the key result offers a tonal starting point. Treat both as estimates and check them by listening, especially with short clips, sparse arrangements, tempo changes, or songs whose harmony moves between keys. The analyzer uses a representative section, so the result may not describe every part of a changing track.
Your file is analyzed on your device in the browser; it is not uploaded to a Yenpro server.
